Mistakes
One of the first discussion in class was about making mistakes and learning from them. I told the children a few examples of famous people who made a lot of mistakes but never gave up. I told them about Colonel Sanders who was rejected by over 1000 restaurants before someone agreed to sell his chicken. I also told them about J.K, Rowling who, after working on her book for 8 years, was rejected by 7 publishing companies before someone agreed to print the first Harry Potter book.
We spoke about how it's normal to make mistakes when we are learning new things but that we need to learn from our mistakes to become better. We spoke about not giving up and that it's my job to find ways to help them learn new things. For our activity the children had to close their eyes and make a 'mistake' on their paper and then turn that mistake into something.
